Born and raised in Michigan, Dr. Rob Davidson is an emergency physician who serves families in small communities across West Michigan, caring for and saving the lives of thousands of patients each year. He’s running for Congress because he believes that all Americans – not just the powerful and the privileged – deserve quality, comprehensive healthcare. Healthcare for all – a kind of Medicare for all –ensures all families have peace of mind knowing that a medical emergency, a major surgery, a trip to the ER or a child with special needs won’t lead to bankruptcy and financial ruin. Rob’s seen all too often how patients put off treatment because they couldn’t afford going to a doctor, putting their lives and the lives of their loved ones at risk.
Because he’s not a politician, Rob will fight for middle-class, working families so they don’t get left behind, and he will always put people ahead of corporate profits.
Rob was born in Fraser, Michigan, and in his early childhood was raised in a small modest house. He was raised by a mom who stayed home and a dad who was a travelling salesman and worked long days. In 1979, they started a small business in the basement of their house, packaging small auto parts. Neither of his parents completed college. But they did show him how, through hard work, patience, grit and a lot of sacrifice growing their small business for 30 years, they built a middle-class life for their family.
Rob went to Kalamazoo College. He played football, studied biology and met his future wife, Diana, who would later become a family physician serving families of the Lakeshore. Rob received his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed his training in Emergency Medicine in Portland, Maine.
The Davidsons married and moved back to Michigan, the state they love, settling in northern Ottawa County in the early 2000s. In addition to many community and school volunteer activities, Rob also serves on the Spring Lake school board. For many years, Rob and Diana have volunteered at medical missions at home and abroad, in some of the poorest countries and in hard-hit disaster areas. Rob is an active outdoorsman and athlete, competing in many short running contests, several marathons, triathlons and Ironman™ challenges. The Davidsons have two daughters and a son.
